Here’s everything you need to know about mounts, including how to upgrade your mount’s stats, add cosmetic details to them, and even how to ride the gigantic Hati Wolf around England.
Building the Stable
To start making changes to your animal companions — both your mount and your raven — you have to progress through the Assassin’s Creed Valhalla storyline enough to unlock the settlement.
Once your group of Vikings has left the snowy shores of Norway for England and founded Ravensthorpe, you’ll have the ability to start tinkering.
Once Ravensthorpe opens up, you’ll have several options buildings to start adding to the settlement. To upgrade or change your mount, you’ll need to build the stable. The location for the stable is a bit north of the longhouse, and it will be one of the first buildings you are able to construct.
To add to your settlement in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, you will need two things: supplies and raw materials.
How to Find Supplies
You’ll find supplies while exploring. They are inside treasure chests and sometimes given as rewards for quests.
How to Find Raw Materials
Raw materials are a bit harder to come by, but you mainly find them by raiding monasteries. When you trigger a raid (noted on the map by crossed red axes), look for the golden barrel icon. Not only do you need to find all of these to successfully complete the raid, but each will give you some raw materials.
How Much Does the Stable Cost to Build?
The stable costs 400 supplies and 30 raw materials. Approach the sign where the building should be and interact with it. You’ll be given the option to build it.
How Do I Upgrade and Change My Mount?
Once you’ve unlocked the stable, you’re on the easy part. Just interact with the stable master, and you’ll see a few different options.
If you choose the option to Train My Mount, you’ll see some stat upgrades you can add. This is how you give your mount better stamina, give them more HP, or give them the ability to swim. You can also tab over to the next page to improve your raven’s abilities.
You can also choose to Swap My Mount, which allows you to purchase cosmetic upgrades or ride an entirely different beast altogether. If you’ve seen people riding a wolf around Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, this is where you select that option (though, depending on which version of the game you bought, you may not have access to it).
Most of the upgrades through the stable master are purchased with silver, but there are a few other places you can find some unique options.
How Do I Unlock Unique Mounts and the Hati Wolf?
As of right now, the only way to unlock the Hati Wolf Mount is to have the Berserker Pack, which is included in the game’s Collector’s Edition and Ultimate Edition, or to navigate to the in-game store and spend some real-world money (ahem, Helix Credits) on it.
To reach the store, open your regular menu and use the D-pad to get to it. Look in the Companions section for the wolf.
Can I Use Opal Currency?
Another possibility that may crop up in the future is that you’ll be able to use Opal Currency. Once you’ve advanced a bit further in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and completed your first alliance pledge (the story quests through Randvi), the Thousand Eyes merchant will appear in Ravensthorpe. You’ll see a quest in Ravensthorpe and, after speaking with the merchant, a new icon will appear to show where to find him.
This merchant trades only in opals (which are found throughout the world and through quests presented by the Thousand Eyes), and offers a rotating stock of unique, and usually cosmetic, items.
The Thousand Eyes’ stock changes every day, so keep an eye out. There’s no guarantee the wolf mount will show up here, but we’ve already seen a few unique mounts available, so it seems possible.
